The Artichokes are Coming!

Isn't this the most beautiful artichoke patch you've ever seen?
This is in our back yard, thanks to the resident gardener (aka The Big Kahuna) and the Master Gardener (you can meet Him in the book of Genesis).
If last year is any indication, before long we will be swimming in artichokes.
Anyone have artichoke ideas to share with the rest of us?

You lucky girl!!!! I LOVE artichokes and could probably eat them daily. I am NOT terribly creative though. I like 'em steamed with a dip of butter or mayo & garlic. So where exactly did all those plants come from? And when are artichokes in season?

Pam, we were trying to remember where we got the first of the artichoke plants -- Home Depot or Orchard Supply's nursery, most likely. Like a lot of plants, they just seem to keep multiplying. My husband has moved them several times (separating them as he goes) and, as you can see, they are quite happy in their current location :) Last year we got about 35 or 40 artichokes! Our one plant is now about 5.

My handy seasonal vegetable chart says the best buys on artichokes are March, April, and May. Those from our garden last year were producing like crazy in May and June. And I agree, steamed with butter or mayo is yummy!

Lynn,
Have you tried spinach with vinegar on it with a little salt and butter? This is the way we eat it. Hugs, Bobbi Jo

Kelly, I think spinach artichoke dip sounds interesting. Any time you want to send a recipe my way, please do ;)

Sincerely Yours, thanks for coming by and for the good wishes. I hope your new adventures are going well, too.

Bobbi Jo, I have not tried spinach that way. Do you cook it, or eat it raw? Inquiring minds want to know!
