Who'd have thunk?
That once the cold weather hit, you could pull up from the garden some of these . . .
Wrap them in this . . .
Set them aside for a week or two or three . . .
And end up with this!?!
How cool is that?
If you don't wrap your green tomatoes in newspapers, by the way, and just set them in the windowsill in hopes of wintertime ripening? They'll shrivel.
Just thought you'd wanna know.

I'm glad I know this trick now. I did leave my green tomatoes in the windowsill and yep, they got all shriveled up. I will be using this trick this year.
I tried to wrap my garden tomatoes in paper and they rotted... Did I do something wrong? Should they be wrapped really tightly?
Jenn -- ooooh, sorry to hear your tomatoes rotted. They don't need to be wrapped really tightly, but they do like to be in a cool, dry place. I've read that the garage is a good spot, but we kept ours in a back room of the house that stays pretty darned chilly. Do you think yours might have gotten too warm?
DarcyLee -- hope you have good luck with your tomatoes!
Thanks for visiting my blog today. Your book looks really cute.
We did this with the tomatoes that were left on the vine, right before the first major frost. We wrapped them in newspaper and placed them in a box in our basement. When we unwrapped them the first week of November most of them were beautifully ripened. Only a few were past their peak. It was so much fun to have fresh garden tomatoes in November!
What's a vegetable? ;0)
We gave you some love here...
Yummy! Love that little tip/trick! Fabulous!
That's a wonderful tip to know. I have green tomatoes at different times of the year and didn't know to wrap them in newspaper. Thanks also for stopping by my blog site. I love new visitors.
Best wishes,
Cindy
That is a fabulous tip!! (And I love the pictures!)
