Happy Bastille Day!
Well I couldn't let Bastille Day go by unheralded, could I?
Here is my (somewhat feeble) attempt at an appropriately French, celebratory dish.
Crème Anglaise. Also known as custard sauce. Which, despite the fact that mine failed to live up to the "smooth velvety" texture the recipe promised, I still think will taste mighty good tonight after dinner with some home-grown peaches.

Nope, no French recipes from me. Except that I love to cook with lots of butter. :) How did your creme sauce go with peaches? My very few peaches are getting ripe. This has been such a weird year for all of my stone fruit. Today in the Central valley, I am wondering if this heat will do the surviving trees in.
How is it in your area Lynn?
I hate to even look at my poor avocado tree. I hope you are enjoying your summer.

Farm Girl, I agree, it has been a very strange year, weather-wise. But our peaches did surprisingly well for some reason. No apricots to speak of, and plums were minimal, too (the birds and squirrels got them). Oh well, it does make you appreciate the abundant years all the more.
And I agree, everything tastes better with butter :) Peaches were fine with the crème sauce, but I think they are even better just plain. Hope you are having a good summer, too.
Hi Lynne, no yummy recipes to share but a 'sweet' hello from me to you. Thanks for visiting my blog! Always nice to meet a fellow book lover- and you are also an author?
love you with hugs... julie
Hi Lynn,
No French recipe for me either. I totally missed the Bastille Day Celebration.
i must say, the notion of Crème Anglaise may have just solved my "problem" though. I've been wanting to use the leftover Chiffon Cake in some sort of trifle. Crème Anglaise may just be the answer. I'm going to buy some fresh Black Berries from the roadside stand down the block and whip some up. If it doesn't turn out smooth, I'm sure Marion won't mind, lol…Thanks for sharing, Lynn...
