Panettone
Sadly, I must report this lovely, lovely loaf as a fail.
The pinches of dough I snuck before baking were fantastic. It contains two sticks of butter -- I KNOW! -- why wouldn't it be fantastic?
But the finished product, I am sorry to have to report, did this when sliced:
I think that's at least four crumbles it broke into.
And it kind of tasted like pie crust.
Turns out there is such a thing as too much butter.
Making this Italian Christmas bread was an excuse, truth be told, to play with this:
Which just looked so intriguing at the grocery store. And which I still have a vat of.
But not to worry.
The quest for delectable panettone carries forth. I shall not give up the fight. Soldier on.

Oh so sorry about that. You couldn't even use it to make french toast? Maybe it is like fruitcake, you have to let it sit a bit before you cut it.
No, I have never made it before. Though I have always wanted to make it for french toast.
I have never had much luck with croissants either. Have a wonderful day.
Too bad about your panettone! I've never tried making it, and I love it so much I should. But maybe I should wait until you've perfected a recipe so I won't suffer the same disappointment? Good post -- thanks.
I love this panettone, look amazing!!
It happens to all of us.Better luck next time!
Oh Lynn, so sorry for the failure...it is okay, we somehow in one way or another get to experience this feeling...I hope you do not give up!
Sorry about your Panettone not turning out. Did you forget to put in the eggs?
I made Panettone about 6 years ago for the first time and it was very good.I used a spare bread-maker pan to cook it in because I don't have the proper pan. I need to get a Panettone pan.
Don't give up, try again till you get it right. It will be worth it.

Thank you, everyone, for your sympathy :) Even after it sat a bit, Farm Girl, it still was crumbly. Julia, I didn't forget the eggs. But I also didn't have a Panettone pan. I like your idea of using an extra bread maker pan, though. Maybe I will try that on one of my next iterations. Never fear, I won't give up!
