Basil Vinegar Investigation

Experimenting over here with basil vinegar.
Put several sprigs in a jar and cover with warm malt vinegar. Wait a couple weeks and see how she turns out.
I shall keep you posted.

See, these little experiments freak me out a little bit because I have this bacteria fear. Be sure you let me know how it turns out, bc if I DON'T hear from you again, we'll all know.

Carpoolqueen -- Ha! Well you know what they say; whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. So if I become the hulk in a few weeks . . . just sayin'. Might be easier than those weights in the gym.

Libby, I can't wait to see how it turns out, either. I made some cranberry-balsamic vinegar a few months ago and was disappointed that it didn't taste any different than plain ol' balsamic. So we shall see! Thanks for adding me to your blogroll. And the iced coffee you show at your blog now looks amazing! Yum.

DarcyLee, I'll probably use it in salad dressings. Do you have any good ideas? Do you ever use vinegars in marinades?

Hi Lynn!
I LOVE your blog and can't wait to see how your basil vinegar turns out--and those freezer pickles look lovely! I am off now, to explore more of your charming blog!
P.S. Thanks so much for the kind words about the books! We have a project in the works but were delayed for a bit due to family obligations. I'll post when everything's confirmed. Thanks again!

Sounds like it should be great! I'd mix it with good olive oil and dip crusty bread in it. Parmesan cheese would be yummy with it too. Don't forget to report back!!

Jeanne, I love your olive oil/crusty bread idea. I will try it. About the Parmesan -- would you just sprinkle some, grated, into the oil/vinegar mixture before dipping the bread?
