Sour Cream - Yogurt Cucumbers
We are in chopping mode over here. Me with the chef's knife and the plethora of cucumbers from the garden.
Kahuna with the chain saw and this oak tree that decided to come crashing down in our backyard the other night at midnight. How rude.
See the poor little peach tree stick in the foreground?

Kahuna's been busy.
This fine recipe, recently posted at Donna's blog, Designs on 47th Street, is a great alternative to the vinegar-y, pickle-ish cucumber dishes I often make. (Like this one, for example. Or this one.)
Donna's recipe calls for 1/2 c. sour cream. But the first time I made it I didn't have enough, so substituted half plain yogurt for half the sour cream. I added a touch of sugar to offset the yogurt's tang. I decided I like it this way.
SOUR CREAM - YOGURT CUCUMBERS
1 cucumber, sliced
1 t. salt
1/4 c. sour cream
1/4 c. plain yogurt
1/4 t. sugar
4 t. vinegar
2-3 drops hot pepper sauce
2 T. snipped chives
1/2 t. dried dillweed
dash pepper
Thinly slice cucumber. Sprinkle salt over and let sit for 30 minutes. Drain and rinse to get rid of some of the saltiness.
Combine sour cream, yogurt, sugar, vinegar, hot pepper sauce, chives, dillweed, and pepper. (I just mix it all up in the measuring cup.)
Et voila. You are done.

Oh my, I will try this recipe and it won't kill my diet either. Thanks for visiting & commenting! I'm sure glad I found you, or you found me, whichever the case may be. What a wonderful blog, and your book is now on my Amazon wish list. Sweet! It looks perfect and boy howdy, do I ever need help!! -Tammy a/k/a "Just Plain Tired" :)
It sure does please me that you liked my cucumber recipe well enough to feature it on your blog. :) Your variations sound good and would probably be a little easier on the waistline with using yogurt.
I'm anxious to try some of your recipes I see on your blog.
Donna
Thanks for coming by to visit, Sue, Denise, Tammy, and Donna. It's such fun to make new blog friends. Donna, we are loving your cucumbers over here. And Tammy, hope you get the books on your wish list :) I am also in the "just plain tired" homemaker category. Along with a few other categories . . .
Looks wonderful. I love all the ingredients listed, so I must try it!
This looks so good. I've always made the vinegar-y kind of cucumber salads but this is something I would love to try.
I will definitely try this Lynn. My husband doesn't like cucumbers, but I'm going to try this -- it might change his mind! :)
btw, I really like your new header!
This looks like such a refreshing salad, yummy!
This is the kind of recipe that I would like but hubby probably wouldn't....although he'd love the onion quiche but I wouldn't, lol!
I love a cucumber vinegarette too (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).
Man, if I could get all that done in one sitting I might stop by Walmart and go for it! :o)
This is just the kind of recipe I've been looking for to use up my cucumbers.
Addhumorandfaith, thanks for your compliment on my new header. It's nice to have a computer genius son who can help me with such things.
MMmmmm....do those cucumbers sound really good.
I love how you prepared these cucumbers. They look fantastic.
Peaking in at your blog and thanks for peaking at my blog today and leaving a comment. The header photo is not my home but rather a photo from the Philladelphia Flower Show this past winter. If you like flowers then this is the show to go to. It is amazing! I posted some other photos when I started my blog that you might like to see from the show (March or April). I have had several of my photos vanish on my blog this past week so I hope the photos are still up? Can't seem to figure out the vanishing problem. Oh well, off to play with FLOUR today.

This sounds very good. I am tired of the pickles and still have cucumbers coming. I'll have to get some yogurt before I can try it.
I have a lot of zucchini too. Isn't that always the way... feast or famine! I made zucchini bread with some of it. Green beans should be arriving soon.
Lynn, you just asked a question on my blog about the freezer pickles. Wasn't sure whether I should answer you here or there...I chose both places. :)
I usually drain the pickles after letting them set in the salt mixture. But I've done it without draining too :) I'm no help, am I? LOL! I've never rinsed though.
Hope this comes in time to answer your question!!!!
Thanks for the answer to my pickle question, Lori. (And perfect timing, too :) ) I will drain.
This sounds delicious, I love dill with cukes! And your addition of the yogurt sounds amazing.
This is one of my favorite things to eat in the summer with fresh cucumbers!
