Chocolate-Chip Cheesecake Fantasies
These exceedingly yummy bar cookies start with a graham cracker crust, followed by a layer of orange-flavored cream cheese, then are topped with a mixture of nuts, chocolate chips, and coconut.
I clipped the recipe from a magazine years ago, and made a note that they were from a book called Cookies by Natalie Haughton. I've never actually seen the book, but it looks like Amazon.com has. Does anyone out there have this book? It sounds like a good one. I can certainly vouch for this recipe.
CRUST
1 1/2 c. graham cracker crumbs
2 T. sugar
1/3 c. butter, melted
CREAM CHEESE LAYER
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1 T. grated orange peel
TOPPING
1 c. walnuts or almonds, chopped
1 c. chocolate chips
2/3 c. flaked or shredded coconut
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In medium bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs, 2 T. sugar, and melted butter. Press evenly into 9 x 13" pan. Bake 7 to 8 minutes.
In medium bowl, place cream cheese, 1/3 c. sugar, egg, vanilla, and orange peel. Use mixer to blend. Spread evenly over baked crust.
Delicious.

These look heavenly. I love the orange twist to the recipe. Wonderful!
Just wanted to pop over and say hello, and thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment on my blog - it was such a lovely surprise. You might have noticed I am learning to bake, so I will definitely be back here to look for some of your easier recipes to try out on my unsuspecting husband!
Have a lovely weekend, and thanks again!
Just STOP!!!! Must stop visiting if every recipe causes such weakness in healthy habits. We would call this one nummy num num.
The Bumbles, I TRY to be good. I made a roasted vegetable soup recently, but I couldn't post about it because it didn't turn out. I believe there is some kind of conspiracy that mandates that all good recipes contain whipping cream, chocolate, or pork fat.
These sound delicious. I wonder how they would be with strawberry cream cheese...I'll have to try.
Jana, I'll bet they'd be great with strawberry cream cheese. Good idea :) And if you've discovered any great soup recipes recently -- please share! I'm striking out over here.
My effort to lose 5 pounds has now been lost. These look fantastic. The husband was just asking/complaining/whining that I hadn't made cookies recently. LOL
I am not sure I want to try this recipe, it looks quite addicting! Thanks for all the yummy recipes.
Ooooh, this sounds so good! I'll be making it when we return from Hawaii!
Thanks for participating in my Favorite Ingredients Friday- Chocolate edition recipe exchange. I do appreciate it.
I hope you'll join me again this Friday for my Mardi Gras edition!
