According to the highly entertaining book, Something from the Oven: Reinventing Dinner in 1950s America by Laura Shapiro, "In 1953 (International Harvester) put out both a refrigerator and freezer trimmed with plaid fabric slipcovers. Plaid kitchen curtains completed the ensemble, and a selling point was the ease with which housewives could redecorate simply by changing to new fabric."
Well what do you think of that?

Well now, I might have to think about this one! LOL. I had thought maybe camo fabric, then it would be hidden and no one would even realize it was there! LOL

ReplyDeleteI worked for International Harvester for 28 years, and when we moved into Hubby's family farmhouse, there was an old International freezer out in the summer kitchen. I had never heard that they had made appliances until then! (but I certainly never heard about the slipcovers! that's funny!)
